Chemistry graduates often finish their degree and face the same practical question. What jobs are actually available in the government sector? Teaching is the common suggestion. Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) in Indian Railways

Eligibility

Candidates need a Bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics and Chemistry. Most notifications require at least 45 percent marks. Age limit is generally 18 to 33 years, sometimes extended to 36 years. Reserved category candidates get the usual relaxation.

Vacancies

These posts are not notified every year in large numbers. When the Railway Recruitment Boards release a combined Junior Engineer and CMA notification, the total CMA seats across all zones often remain between 50 and a few hundred. The overall Chemical and Metallurgical cadre in Railways is relatively small.

Salary The post is in Level 6 of the 7th Pay Commission. Basic pay starts at ₹35,400. After dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other benefits, a newly joined CMA usually receives an in-hand salary between ₹55,000 and ₹65,000 per month, depending on the city of posting.
