A sudden cloudburst followed by a landslide hit the Anini area in Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. Five Army personnel remain missing. Two soldiers have been rescued so far. Rescue teams are continuing search operations in difficult weather conditions.

The incident occurred between late Friday evening and Saturday morning. Heavy rain triggered a rapid flow of water and debris down the slopes. Several roads in the area were damaged. Army personnel stationed in the region were caught in the sudden natural disaster.

What Happened

A cloudburst in the Anini region caused intense water discharge and triggered landslides. The force of water and debris made movement extremely difficult. Five soldiers went missing during the incident. Local residents and rescue teams managed to pull out two soldiers alive.

Initial reports also indicate that some civilian labourers may have been affected. Exact numbers are still being verified because of poor weather and limited access to the site.

Rescue Operations

Teams from NDRF, SDRF, ITBP and the local administration are present at the location. Bad weather and the high-altitude terrain have slowed the pace of the search. Authorities are also exploring the use of helicopters whenever weather conditions allow.

The state government has directed officials to monitor the situation closely. Relief material is being arranged under instructions from the Chief Minister’s office.
