The high-speed test track in Rajasthan is almost steel-ready. There is no passenger train on this track. It is a closed lab between Gudha and Thathana Mithri, in the Nawa belt of Jodhpur division, about 70 km from Jaipur.

North Western Railway holds the ground. RDSO runs the tests. I am tired of reels that stamp bullet train on this map. Wrong gauge. Wrong owner. Wrong speed.

High-speed test track: the August 2026 facts

Indian Express dated 24 August 2026 is the latest public brief. Amit Sudarshan, CPRO of North Western Railway, said that the job is in its final stage. Cost is about ₹967 crore. Peak trial speed is 220 kmph. The runs themselves are parked in 2027-28, not this winter.

That report puts dedicated broad gauge at about 59 km. 23 km main line, 13 km loop at Gudha, 3 km sprint loop at Nawa, 20 km curve loop at Mithri. A 4.5 km twisted patch is already live for static checks. Gudha station alterations are done. Kyosan interlocking was recast. Eighteen points got new slot and indication circuits.

Paper trail: phase one in December 2018, phase two in November 2021. RITES later took a maintenance letter from RDSO. The 31.5 km fast stretch and the 3 km loop are aimed at September 2026. Mithri’s curve is hoped for by year-end. After that, you get loggers, night runs, a pass or a fail. No ticket window.

What still wobbles on this high-speed test track

Coaching PDFs from December 2025 still print 64 km and “ready by March 2026”. March came. The full yard did not. If your notes freeze that line, strike it. For a mock I’d write: August 2026 report says about 59 km; older copy said 64 km.

Nobody published a crash as the reason. Nobody named a contractor in that Express piece. So don’t invent a scandal to make the copy “hot”. It is a late lab. Late labs are normal. Fake urgency isn’t.

What they will actually thrash on the high-speed test track

RDSO will shove rolling stock at this line so a packed Superfast doesn’t take the beating. Vande Bharat sets can come in for semi-high-speed work. Coaches. Locos. Track parts. Bridges. TRD. Signalling. Soil numbers too.

The codes named are UIC-518 and EN-14363. European yardsticks for how a vehicle behaves. India has often squeezed such runs onto working routes or sent bits out. A fenced strip in Nawa is slower to pour and kinder later.

That twisted 4.5 km looks dull on a thumbnail. It isn’t. Twist and gauge show up before anyone opens the throttle. Skip it and a 220 kmph clip is just wind in a microphone.

Stop mixing it with the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train

Different file. NHSRCL. Standard gauge. Design 350 kmph. Japan in the partnership. You cannot sit a Vande Bharat on that spine and call it the same project.

This high-speed test track is Indian broad gauge. Lucknow-based RDSO. Indian stock. If an MCQ says “Rajasthan bullet train, 350 kmph”, mark no. I’m not being cute. That mix-up is already in comment sections.

We still don’t run a daily 220 kmph passenger service. A few stretches touch 160. Vande Bharat in traffic sits below the brochure peak. Proof first. Public timetable much later, if ever, on some other route.

Why this matters if you sit RRB or SSC

Becausethey want RDSO’s full form. Jodhpur’s zone. The gap between 160, 220 and 350. Cost near ₹967 crore. Trial window 2027-28. Place names: Gudha, Thathana Mithri, Nawa.

North Western Railway headquarters: Jaipur. RDSO: Lucknow. Park Kavach, Amrit Bharat stations and the Jind–Sonipat hydrogen set in the same week’s sheet. Don’t dream a new CEN out of this story. Crews will work the yard. That is not a Group D advertisement.

Read the 24 August Indian Express report. Keep rdso.indianrailways.gov.in for the organisation. Drill the split on RRBCONTENTS.com. One “bullet train in Rajasthan” line can wipe a GK set you otherwise had.

A high-speed test track is allowed to be slow

Pasted image

You need land nobody is farming to death, a curve you can own, and fencing that doesn’t fold at speed. Nawa was picked for that, not for a tourism ad. Trains on NWR keep moving while this is built. That’s the point of a dedicated strip.

I’d wait till 2027-28 rather than watch a 200-plus trial on a corridor with families in the next loop. Lab time looks lazy on TV. Field time looks ugly in a commission report. Take lab time.

September is the next date worth circling — that 31.5 km piece. Then Mithri. Then night runs. If it slips again, write the slip. Pride copy helps nobody in an interview either.

Four lines to remember

Confirmed on the high-speed test track: Jodhpur division, RDSO, North Western Railway, about ₹967 crore, 220 kmph, trials 2027-28, CPRO on record in August 2026.

Not the last word: 64 km, March 2026 full finish.

Not this project: Mumbai-Ahmedabad 350 kmph.

Lab. Not a ticket. File those four: RDSO, Jodhpur, 220 kmph, 2027-28. Then ignore the thumbnail that says “bullet”.
