Vijeta Dahiya Removed as CJP Spokesperson Over Viral Burger Video

1. The Viral Clips: Main Protest Site vs Burger King Outlet

Vijeta Dahiya, who was serving as a spokesperson of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was removed from his position on Tuesday (21 July 2026) after a series of videos involving him eating a burger during an ongoing protest went viral.

On 21 July, the CJP was organising its “Chalo Sansad” / “Sansad Chalo” march in Delhi. During the protest, police used force, including lathi-charge, against demonstrators near Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas. Around the same time, multiple videos surfaced on social media showing Dahiya away from the main protest site at a Burger King outlet, eating a burger. He later posted his own video while continuing to eat the burger, defending his actions.

2. Vijeta Dahiya's Defence: Hunger and Lack of Sleep

In the video, Dahiya said:

“Why did I eat a burger? This is a big issue today. So why does anyone eat a burger? He is hungry. He wants to eat a burger. That’s it. So I was also very hungry. And when you eat something good, your mind feels good.”

He further claimed that he and other core organizers of the protest had not slept for two nights straight and that people on social media were unfairly criticising them for taking a short, necessary break to eat.

3. CJP's Response: Dismissal and Condemnation

The Cockroach Janta Party issued a strong statement and immediately removed Dahiya as spokesperson. The party called his actions “deeply insensitive,” especially because the videos appeared at a time when their own protesters and team members were facing police action, arrests, and physical injuries on the streets.

In its official statement, CJP said the conduct showed a “complete lack of judgment” and was inconsistent with the serious spirit of the movement against paper leaks and unemployment.

4. Who is Vijeta Dahiya? Background and Qualifications

Before joining CJP, Dahiya was known as a political researcher, writer, filmmaker, and content creator. He was appointed as the party’s spokesperson on 3 June 2026. CJP had earlier described him as someone with experience in political research and strategic analysis. He has also written books and studied at Delhi Technological University.

As of the evening of 21 July 2026, Vijeta Dahiya is no longer associated with the CJP in any official capacity. The controversy has drawn widespread attention on social media, with sharp criticism directed at him for appearing disconnected from the protesters who were facing police action.
