India Observes 12th National Handloom Day
India observed the 12th National Handloom Day on 7 August 2026, marking the anniversary of the Swadeshi Movement's launch on 7 August 1905.
- Main function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, New Delhi; President Droupadi Murmu attended as Chief Guest.
- 22 awards presented — 3 Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and 19 National Handloom Awards for 2025; four commemorative postage stamps and two special publications released.
- The handloom sector supports over 35 lakh weavers and allied workers, more than 70% of them women.
